Audio Card: Happy Mothers Day! Buona Festa Della Mamma!

Mamma
My mother Pia who passed  away in Italy while I was here in the US. She loved roses.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Auguri Per La Festa Della Mamma!

I recorded this song, and I dedicate it to my mother Pia Sforza and to all the mothers in the world, especially those who are far away from their children.

(Feel free to share with your mamma!)

About The Song:

As all songs, this one has many meanings besides the apparent ones. Briefly, however, it’s about the sweet, yet heart-breaking longing for one’s mother.

It talks about child who left home and now looks forward to returning to see the mother. He/she finds her older, silver-haired and weak, and promises to stay close and never leave again.  It explains how the song soars with love and  happiness on the journey back to the mother.

The song was written in 1940, with music by Cesare Andrea Bixio and lyrics by Bruno Cherubini. It was originally made famous by the great tenor Beniamino Gigli in the movie “Mamma” (1941) about a tenor who returned to Italy to his mother.
